Basic Construction Methods & Operations Training
Thanks to a grant from the Northampton County Department of Economic Development, Northampton Community College (NCC) is offering a FREE basic construction course: Basic Construction Methods & Operations Training. This program is designed to enhance the skills of current home construction employees or prepare new candidates for employment. It provides foundational skills that are beneficial to individuals who are new to the industry and to those looking to sharpen their basic construction knowledge.The training includes hands-on instruction in basic construction methods and operations, covering:
- Hand and power tools
- Framing and trim applications
- Drywall and wall repairs
- Door and window installation
- Ladder and scaffolding safety
- Building code awareness
All candidates who successfully complete the program will earn an OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Training for Construction card. An employer day will also be included so that participants have an opportunity to network and interview with potential employers.
Who Can Attend?
Candidates must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have dependable transportation
- Possess basic reading and math skills
- Be a Northampton County resident
- Attend a mandatory information session
Participants will be qualified once all requirements are met, following an interview process.

Contractor Enhancement for Construction Remodeling & Renovation
Thanks to a grant from the Northampton County Department of Economic Development, NCC is excited to offer a FREE contractor course: Contractor Enhancement for Construction Remodeling & Renovation. This course is for experienced contractors looking to enhance their expertise in construction, remodeling, and restoration, with 36 hours of in-depth training focused on current industry practices and regulatory compliance.
The program includes:
- OSHA Ten-Hour Outreach Training: covering key safety topics such as fall protection, respiratory safety, and hazard communication
- Zoning awareness: detailed instruction on zoning laws, ordinances, and procedural requirements for construction projects
- Building code compliance: in-depth training on residential building codes, including the International Residential Code (IRC) and Pennsylvania’s Uniform Construction Code (UCC)
- New products and tools: discussions on the latest innovations in construction tools, equipment, and products, with hands-on installation practice
- Energy conservation techniques: training on insulation methods and sustainable building practices for energy efficiency
- Workforce development: methods to enhance hiring practices, including recruitment and retention strategies for a diverse and intergenerational workforce
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify and mitigate workplace safety hazards in compliance with OSHA standards
- Navigate zoning laws and apply for the necessary permits
- Understand and apply building code requirements during construction and renovation projects
- Implement energy-saving measures and utilize new tools and products in restoration projects
- Develop effective hiring and workforce retention strategies

Who Can Attend?
This course is designed for contractors with at least three years of experience in the construction or remodeling industry. It is ideal for professionals seeking to expand their business, improve their expertise in complex restoration projects, or move into more specialized areas of the industry.
Candidates must have:
- Minimum of three years of experience in construction or remodeling
- Proof of contractor's license or equivalent work experience
- Familiarity with building codes and construction safety practices
- Commitment to attending all course sessions
